I have now entered the dark and dangerous (virtual) world of CSI-NY.

Jessey Giadelli, that’s me! Wonder if they’ll give me a gun?!

When I’m not solving crimes in New York, you can find me online playing, Texas Hold ‘Em or Scrabble. The life of a CSI isn’t an easy one.

Other than as a teen or children’s program, I don’t see online gaming or virtual worlds becoming part of public service. It would be an interesting way to train, though, by creating a virtual library environment where you could hone public service skills. Wonder if they’ll give me a gun!

Productivity Tools and the Library:

One of the best features of document sharing is being able to house developing ideas and information in a central location where they can be viewed/and or edited by a committee or team. This works much better than having to email attachments to a number of people with every change made. It also allows you to work on the document regardless of whether you’re logged into your profile or not, since all you need is internet access.

eAudio: Finding and downloading a book from eAudio was fairly straightforward. I downloaded P.D. James’ The Murder Book.

NetLibrary: Finding a book I wanted to download was painless. Downloading isn’t as straightforward since the book is downloaded to a temporary file if you don’t select the manual download option. I downloaded Big Heat and Best Defense from NetLibrary.

From the patron point of view: Someone visiting our catalogue for the first time might not think to look for NetLibrary’s audiobooks under Info To Go when we have another area called Look and Listen. There should be a directional link from the Look and Listen page.

I will now be up-to-date, here on my blog, with the ups and downs of Husky Oil. More ups than downs, I hope!

No longer will I seem out of touch with my weekly (email) updates of the Stanley Cup playoffs!

For patrons, one great advantage of databases is the current medical information. More current than we might have on our shelves, at least. The same can be said for current political and social affairs worldwide.

The databases are always promoted during class visits. In the branch, whenever possible and the patron is interested, I give a quick overview of what’s available online.
